My name is Jane Okoth, known in the industry as Jayne Stylist. I am an international stylist based in Kenya, serving as the CEO of Rapunzel Hair Affair and the Founder of Porsh Human Hair. With 25 years of experience in the hair industry, I have been honored with various awards, including the Hair and Weave Technician Award at the Hair Expo in 2014, the Hall of Fame Award, Salon Business of the Year Award, and several recognitions at the Kenya Hair Award. In 2015, I received the Top 40 Under 40 Award by Nation Media Group, along with accolades from the Rapunzel staff at the Hair Expo. The following year, I was recognized as a Hair Extension Expert and led the Salon Team of the Year at the Kenya Hair Award. Most recently, in 2023, I was honored with a Special Recognition at the MTM Awards in the United Kingdom.

My journey in the hair industry began at the age of 8, where I discovered my passion for hairstyling while tending to my friends’ hair. Over the years, I’ve evolved into a mentor, empowering both men and women to excel in the hair industry, fostering confidence and improving livelihoods. This includes individuals with disabilities and women undergoing chemotherapy, to whom we donate wigs and provide support.

Despite the stereotypes surrounding hairdressing, I believe it is a profession like any other, offering the opportunity for a fulfilling career, financial stability, and community impact. Inspired by my visits to celebrity hair stylists in America, I initiated The Jayne Stylist Master Class through Rapunzel Hair Affair Salon. This program provides aspiring hairdressers and beauticians with space to run and develop their businesses while receiving mentorship.

Throughout my extensive career, I’ve witnessed the evolution of hair extensions from various materials to human hair. To ensure consistent quality for our clients, I’ve traveled to leading destinations in the hair industry, conducting research and sourcing the best options for the modern woman. Following guidance from Prof Ndemo during a mentoring session at the Keroche Foundation, I recognized the importance of innovation and standardization to scale our operations. This led to the establishment of Porsh Human Hair, partnering with manufacturing plants in Asia and Europe to design hair tailored to African women.

With the support of mentoring from the Keroche Foundation, Porsh Human Hair now distributes quality hair products in Kenya and in neighboring regions. We believe that a woman’s hair is her crowning glory, and our mission is to ensure that she embraces it with love and confidence.
